About Sharyn Jackson
Sharyn Jackson is an award-winning enterprise journalist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A features writer at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, she was previously a news reporter writing for USA Today and the Des Moines Register in Iowa, and an editor at the Village Voice in New York City. Her reporting has appeared in USA Today, the New York Daily News, Time, Parade, Modern Farmer, the Newark Star-Ledger, Time Out New York, Conde Nast Traveler, WNYC/New York Public Radio, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and other media organizations. Sharyn was named a Livingston Award finalist for her work on "Harvest of Change" for the Des Moines Register in 2014. Sharyn’s 2011 piece in the Santa Fe Reporter about a “fly-in abortionista” won a 2012 AltWeekly Award in feature writing. Sharyn has a Master of Science with honors from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she concentrated on magazine writing, and was a chapter leader and scholarship recipient of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. She is currently on the leadership team of the Minnesota chapter of NLGJA.
Originally hailing from New Jersey, her undergraduate degree comes from New York University, where she majored in history. She lived in southwestern Germany in 2004–2005 as a historical researcher at a Holocaust history museum. She got her start in media in 2005 as the managing editor of GO Magazine in New York City. In her free time, Sharyn dabbles in trombone, takes spontaneous road trips and is a producer of “We Love the Golden Girls,” the popular annual Golden Girls drag tribute party, which ran for five years in New York City.
